Scythe is a Rye IPA and is a very well balanced representation of the style. You get a sweet, malty, tropical/spicy smell on the nose. As you can see, it’s a beautiful pour…..deep caramel which is absolutely present in the taste.
A slight bitterness from the hops gets offset from the tropical fruit/caramel sweetness. It’s the spiciness of the rye that sets Burial’s offering apart. I’m not even a fan of rye, whether it be in bread or bourbon (much prefer bourbon!), but I still enjoyed this one. It should still be around at the brewery and in some bottle shops around the state.
