Raise yet another glass in celebration, Concord. You’re getting not one but TWO craft breweries in downtown. Cabarrus Brewing announced Wednesday it would be joining High Branch Brewery in the plan to open facilities near the home of the Charlotte Motor Speedway (and, really, NASCAR in general).
On Wednesday Cabarrus broke the news it would be setting up a location at Gibson Mill in downtown Concord.

The brewery signed a “long-term lease” for a “15,000 square foot” brewing space.
“Cabarrus county has a very rich textile and manufacturing history,” one of Cabarrus’ owners, Steve Steinbacher told CharlotteBeer.com. “We have old mills everywhere. Some are falling down and dilapidated shells, and some are being repurposed.”
They’ll join up with High Branch to form a tantalizing tandem in downtown Concord. High Branch announced the news on its Facebook page back in March.
“It’s official folks…we have our future location! High Branch Brewing Co. has found a space to call home at Gibson Mill in Concord, NC!” the brewery wrote at the time. “We are so excited to be part of such a cool, historic space. The area has beautiful brick, high ceilings and lots of natural light – the perfect atmosphere for a brewery! Work on the space has already begun and we will be sure to post updates. Hoping for an opening early this summer!”
High Branch plans to focus on “both Belgian inspired and hop forward ales with a focus on fermentation profiles” and just a few days ago shared a picture of the taproom in progress at the facility.
As frequenters of the Concord area (thanks to our delightful in-laws), we’re slightly more than excited for the expansion of craft beer in the area.
High Branch hopes to be open in August. So, um, honey, you know I’d really love to go visit your family…
